The Champagne Grand Vintage by Moët & Chandon represents one of the highest expressions of the historic Épernay Maison, the emblem of a tradition that began in 1842 with its first declared vintage. Each Grand Vintage is produced only in exceptional years, when the harvest offers a perfect balance between ripeness and freshness, and embodies the creative freedom of the Chef de Cave in crafting a unique, mature, and inimitable Champagne.
This 77th edition, Grand Vintage 2016, takes shape from a blend of 48% Chardonnay, 34% Pinot Noir, and 18% Meunier, the synthesis of a harvest marked by strong climatic contrasts yet capable of delivering remarkable balance. The long ageing of over seven years on the lees, carried out in the historic chalk cellars where silence and constant temperature allow time to act with natural finesse, imparts depth, mineral energy, and refined complexity to the wine. The final Extra Brut dosage completes the profile, enhancing the purity and transparency of Moët’s style.
On the palate, Grand Vintage 2016 reveals a golden yellow colour with bright green reflections. The bouquet opens with toasted, dry notes of bread, cereals, and hazelnuts, evolving toward sweeter and spicier nuances of gingerbread, marzipan, and barley sugar. With aeration, aromas of yellow plum, mirabelle, quince, orange blossom, and anise emerge, forming a deep and harmonious aromatic weave. On the palate it is full and velvety, with a rounded texture that evolves into a precise and vibrant structure. The finish is long, citrusy, and refined, with echoes of clementine and pomelo, underscoring the balanced freshness and luminous persistence of a truly accomplished Champagne.
