Champagne Marie-Noelle Ledru
Cuvée du Goulté 2001
The Champagne Cuvée du Goulté by Marie-Noëlle Ledru is a Blanc de Noirs made entirely from Pinot Noir grapes, coming from the vineyards of Ambonnay, a Grand Cru village of the Montagne de Reims. The plots, with vines of 30 to 40 years of age, are farmed with deliberately low yields and according to a rigorous, artisanal approach that reflects the philosophy of Marie-Noëlle Ledru, known as "Madame Pinot Noir" for her unique ability to express with precision, finesse and depth the authentic soul of the variety that symbolises this territory. Produced only in the most favourable years, the Cuvée du Goulté is vinified in stainless steel, a choice that favours purity and balance without sacrificing complexity and depth.
This edition, Vintage 2001, comes from a complex and rainy year that in Champagne demanded an extremely severe selection in the vineyard and a harvest carried out bunch by bunch, so much so that very few producers chose to declare it. In Ambonnay, the chalky soils and the southern exposures of the Montagne de Reims allowed Pinot Noir to retain healthy ripeness and vibrant acidity, giving wines that are slender and luminous, moderate in alcohol and with surprising staying power over time. Released in limited quantity by the Domaine in 2026, this cuvée represents an exceptional bottling, with a recent dégorgement after more than 15 years of ageing on the lees and a minimal final dosage that enhances depth, maturity and full coherence with the terroir. The label itself reflects this artisanal dimension, in all likelihood printed at the Domaine with rudimentary means, a simple and sincere detail that speaks of an entirely hands-on way of working, faithful to the family scale of the production.
On tasting, Cuvée du Goulté 2001 reveals a mature and luminous profile, with hints of candied citrus, dried fruit, hazelnut and pastry nuances that intertwine with delicate earthy notes and a well-defined chalky minerality. On the palate it shows a tight, vibrant texture, supported by an acidity that is still intact and that lengthens the finish on saline and slightly almondy tones, in a refined persistence where the depth of Pinot Noir coexists with a rare sense of lightness.
