Champagne Louis Roederer
Starck | Brut Nature 2018
The Champagne Brut Nature 2018 is born from the meeting of Louis Roederer and designer Philippe Starck, a cuvée of pure essentiality and pioneering vision that responds with clarity to climate change and redraws the very idea of contemporary Champagne. From the chalky terroir of Cumières and completed by Starck's refined minimalist design, playing on the warm tones of terracotta and beige, this wine combines elegance and sobriety in a narrative as coherent as it is innovative.
This edition, Vintage 2018, born of a warm, dry and perfectly healthy year, brings together mainly Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay grapes from the La Rivière parcel (lieu-dit), where the cépages oubliés Arbane, Pinot Blanc, Petit Meslier and Pinot Gris also find their place. Vinification and maturation take place 31% in wood and forgo malolactic fermentation to preserve aromatic purity, while after tirage the wine ages for at least six years on the lees before a dégorgement with no final dosage, in a Brut Nature style.
On tasting, the Brut Nature 2018 stands out for its great energy and precision, with a taut, vibrant attack of lime and candied zest followed by elegant balsamic accents of sage and ginger. On the palate it is saline and vertical, stretched over tones of red and black currant and a ripe, faintly smoky aftertaste, with a pure, crystalline substance that clearly reflects the chalky identity of the terroir, in a perfect, long-lasting balance of freshness, harmony and authenticity.
