The Champagne Haut du Moulin by Domaine La Rogerie takes its name from the highest part of the eponymous lieu-dit, overlooking the southern edge of the Avize Grand Cru, where chalk rich in marine fossils lies just a few centimetres below the surface and grants Chardonnay tension, salinity and a rare aromatic clarity. The vines, planted between 1937 and 1961, are now well over sixty years old and carry an idea of craft work that lets the site speak without mediation.

This edition, from the 2022 harvest completed by vin de réserve of the 2021 and 2020 years, involves a vinification with spontaneous fermentations from indigenous yeasts and a maturation in 228-litre oak barrels with wood of 1–3 years, a choice that carries the wine towards greater complexity without compromising its expressive precision. After tirage it undergoes an ageing on the lees of at least 30 months that amplifies its articulation and depth, while dégorgement with no final dosage, in Brut Nature style, preserves its taut and well-defined profile.

On tasting, Haut du Moulin appears luminous and solar, with ripe citrus and yellow-fleshed fruit interwoven with a hint of graphite and a finely defined chalky imprint. On the palate the attack is broad and relaxed, supported by a fine bead and a vibrant acidity that gives drive to a dense and well-articulated material, in a progressive development that leads to a saline finish of long and compelling persistence. Production in a limited and individually numbered run.
