Les Côtes "Blanc de Gris"
The Champagne Les Côtes “Blanc de Gris” by Julien Prélat is a unique and captivating expression of the Côte des Bar, made from 100% Pinot Gris, a very rare variety in Champagne and one of the so-called “Cépages Oubliés”: white grape varieties now almost disappeared, yet deeply rooted in the history and tradition of Champagne. The grapes come from a single vineyard planted in 2017 on Kimmeridgian soil, rich in marine fossils and limestone, located on the upper part of the slope with North-West exposure, near the village of Celles-sur-Ource.
The 2021 harvest was vinified in small stainless steel vats, with malolactic fermentation completed, followed by bottling with cork stopper, in the traditional method. The wine was aged on its lees for at least 24 months, and the minimal dosage – 2 g/l, Extra Brut – allows it to express with great precision the identity of the grape variety and the character of its terroir.
On tasting, Les Côtes “Blanc de Gris” opens on the nose with aromas of yellow and exotic fruits, accompanied by floral notes and light spicy and smoky hints. On the palate, it is round, balanced, and juicy, with a fine and persistent finish that enchants with delicacy and depth.
A rare and sought-after “Blanc de Gris” Champagne, produced in limited edition: only 1,586 bottles, 48 magnums, and 10 jéroboams.
