Champagne Famille Moussé
L'orage
The Champagne L'Orage by Famille Moussé carries in its name the memory of 2021, a season marked by spring frosts, storms and hailstorms that in Cuisles, from the Vallée de la Marne, wiped out 85% of the crop. From that loss came a rare gesture of solidarity, with eleven vigneron friends from Champagne offering their support and supplying Chardonnay grapes to bring this special cuvée to life, and as a further tribute their names now appear on the back label as a collective signature.
This edition, from the 2021 harvest, is made only from Chardonnay grapes coming from twelve different crus, with vinification and maturation carried out entirely in stainless steel vats and a fully completed malolactic fermentation. After tirage comes an ageing on the lees of 24 months, while the final dosage of 1.5 g/l, in Extra Brut style, defines its taut profile without taking breadth and continuity away from the material.
On tasting, L'Orage reveals a young yet already expressive character, with an aromatic range that brings together white-fleshed fruit, ripe lemon and fresh almond, closed by a spiced hint of ginger. On the palate a generous texture and a pleasant roundness come through, while the frame stays agile and the persistence stretches over a clean, still youthful finish, set to evolve well over time.
