The Champagne L’Amateur by David Léclapart is a refined Blanc de Blancs made exclusively from Chardonnay sourced from various parcels in the village of Trépail, classified as Premier Cru in the Montagne de Reims. The vines, cultivated according to the principles of biodynamic viticulture, are rooted in clay-limestone soils, contributing to the wine’s marked minerality. Vinification takes place in enameled steel tanks, with spontaneous fermentations initiated by indigenous yeasts. No malolactic fermentation is carried out, nor is any final dosage added, resulting in a Brut Nature that clearly expresses the purity of the fruit and the authenticity of the terroir.

David Léclapart, one of the leading names in natural viticulture in Champagne, cultivates about 3 hectares divided into 22 parcels, all within the village of Trépail. His approach rejects the use of multiple vintages: each cuvée is a direct expression of the year and the land of origin. The use of sulfites is kept to a minimum, limited solely to the pre-bottling stage.

On tasting, L’Amateur appears with a bright straw yellow color, enhanced by golden reflections and a fine, continuous perlage. On the nose, it opens with fresh notes of green apple, pear, citrus, and white flowers, enriched by delicate hints of minerality, almond, and brioche. On the palate, it stands out for its lively acidity, elegant structure, and silky texture. Flavors of apple, apricot, and light toasted notes return, supported by a well-defined mineral tension leading to a long, fresh, and savory finish.
