The Champagne L’Artiste by David Léclapart is an elegant Blanc de Blancs made exclusively from Chardonnay sourced from 30- to 50-year-old vines, rooted in clay-limestone soils near the Premier Cru of Trépail, in the Montagne de Reims. The winemaking process follows an artisanal approach: fermentations are spontaneous, activated by indigenous yeasts, and take place in a combination of old neutral oak barrels and enamel-lined steel tanks. This is followed by complete malolactic fermentation and extended aging in bottle sur lie, without fining or filtration. Bottling is done without dosage, resulting in a Brut Nature of great purity.

David Léclapart, a pioneer of biodynamic viticulture, cultivates about 3 hectares divided into 22 parcels, all within the village of Trépail. His philosophy aims to highlight the identity of the vintage and the terroir: no blending, natural fermentations, and minimal use of sulfites, only just before bottling.

On tasting, L’Artiste appears with a bright straw yellow color and golden highlights, accompanied by a fine and persistent perlage. On the nose, it reveals citrus notes, green apple, white flowers, and mineral hints. With time in the glass, nuances of dried fruit, honey, toasted bread, and a delicate buttery note emerge, the result of prolonged contact with the lees. On the palate, it shows lively acidity and pronounced minerality, a clear reflection of the Trépail terroir. The sip concludes with a long, fresh, and savory finish, marked by an elegant aftertaste of almond and candied citrus.
