Champagne Legrand-Latour
ÉocèneThe Champagne Éocène by Legrand-Latour is a wine of extraordinary authenticity, born from the meeting of ancient geology, artisanal precision, and deep respect for the environment. The grapes come from parcels located in Verneuil and Vandières, an area marked by geological strata dating back to the Eocene period (-56 to -34 million years ago), where landslides and scree have created a unique soil composition of clayey-loamy sand and green clay. The equal blend of Chardonnay and Meunier expresses the dual soul of the terroir with balance: tension and roundness, elegance and depth.
The 2020 harvest was vinified with an artisanal approach respectful of the raw material: 12 months in oak barrels, with no added sugars or fining, followed by a minimum ageing of 42 months on the lees. The limited production of 7,722 bottles reflects the attention to every stage of the process, while the total absence of final dosage – Brut Nature –underscores the intent to present a Champagne in its purest and most essential form.
On tasting, Éocène appears bright, with a fine and persistent perlage. The nose offers fresh and complex notes, with hints of citrus, white flowers, and wet stone, to which, over time, will be added evolved nuances of dried fruit, fine spices, and chalky minerality. On the palate, it is tense, incisive, and harmonious, with marked verticality supported by the natural energy of the grapes and the long ageing on lees. A Champagne of terroir and awareness, designed for those who seek precision, depth, and authenticity in every glass.

Champagne Legrand-Latour
For four generations, the Legrand-Latour Family have been cultivating their vineyards mainly with Meunier grapes but also with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The aim is to obtain grapes of the highest quality and to create Champagnes that are a pure revelation of a terroir as rich in fossils as that found on the slopes of the Vallée de la Marne, and more precisely in Fleury-la-Rivière, where the Domaine is located.
Thibault Legrand, the latest generation of the family, and today the representative of Champagne Legrand-Latour, confidently carries on his father's passion for researching fossils in the terroir, and through a geo-enological approach, he strives to express the influence of this unique subsoil in the mineral expression of their Champagnes.
The family's ageing cellar is housed directly in the Domaine's "underground geological museum", created by Thibault's father over 30 years of excavations that have uncovered fossils from the Cretaceous and Palaeocene periods, the geological eras of greatest interest to Fleury-la-Rivière and Champagne Region in general, from 95 to 20 million years ago.
