Empreintes Millésime 2019

The Champagne Empreintes by Laherte Frères is an authentic expression of the Chavot terroir, crafted from an equal blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir sourced from two historic parcels. The Chardonnay comes from the vineyard “Les Chemins d’Épernay”, planted in 1957 on shallow clay-limestone soils, one third of which consists of rare selections of Chardonnay. The Pinot Noir, instead, originates from the parcel “Les Rouges Maisons”, planted in 1983 on clay-rich soils with flint fragments, endowing the wine with power and depth.

This edition, Vintage 2019, develops through vinification and fermentation in barriques, preceded by traditional pressing, without malolactic fermentation, a choice that preserves freshness and tension. After tirage, the wine undergoes lees ageing for at least 48 months, while dégorgement à la volée and the final dosage of 2 g/l, in Extra Brut style, enhance purity, precision, and expressive energy.

On the palate, Empreintes Millésime 2019 reveals itself as extremely precise and focused, with a crystalline profile and a texture of remarkable purity. The vibrant and incisive acidity supports a fresh, lively, and dynamic sip, marked by exceptional drive and a structure of rare mineral clarity. Empreintes is conceived as a synthesis of the uniqueness of each vintage and reflects the philosophy of the Laherte family, committed to vineyard practices that respect life and the natural balance of the ecosystem.

Founded in 1889 by Jean-Baptiste Laherte in Chavot-Courcourt, in the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay, Maison Laherte Frères today stands as one of the most dynamic realities in Champagne. Since 2005, the estate has been led by Aurélien Laherte, who carries on the family heritage with a natural approach and a strong focus on the identity of the terroir, while preserving tradition and authenticity.

The Laherte family vineyards are located mainly in the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay, a subregion that shares characteristics with both the Côte des Blancs and the Vallée de la Marne, thanks to its diverse and complex soils. In total, the estate covers 10.5 hectares divided into more than 75 parcels: around seven hectares are farmed under certified biodynamics, with the remainder cultivated following organic or sustainable practices. Due to the fragmentation of the family holdings, Aurélien has registered as a négociant manipulant, allowing him to integrate all of the family’s grapes into his blends.

In the vineyard, the work follows an approach respectful of natural balance, using plant infusions, cover crops, and minimal tillage to preserve the microbial life of the soil. In addition to Pinot Noir, Meunier, and Chardonnay, Aurélien also vinifies several cépages oubliés, such as Petit Meslier, Arbanne, Pinot Blanc, and Fromenteau, enriching both the biodiversity and the expressive range of the estate’s vineyards. In the cellar, his philosophy favors gentle vinifications and minimal intervention, resulting in Champagnes that are vibrant, energetic, and full of personality.
