Champagne Brut
Jane des Rouales

The Champagne Jane des Rouales by Jean Valentin pays tribute to Jane Roualet, who in 1922 established the family Domaine in Sacy, a Premier Cru village of the Petite Montagne de Reims, and recalls the rouale, the old vineyard tool that gave rise to the Roualet surname, present in Champagne since the 16th century. It is the Domaine’s Grande Réserve, made from the best vineyards around the Premier Cru of Sacy, about ten kilometres from Reims, farmed with environmentally respectful methods.

This edition, sans année, is based on Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier grapes vinified separately plot by plot before being brought together in the style of the Domaine, so as to keep a consistent and recognisable profile from one edition to the next. After tirage comes extended ageing on the lees for over 30 months, with riddling still largely done by hand, while the final dosage in a Brut style supports the wine’s substance without weighing it down.

On tasting, Jane des Rouales shows a pale gold hue and a nose of stone fruit, ripe pear and citrus, accompanied by notes of pastry and a light hint of toasted bread. On the palate the wine is rich and full, with ripe fruit well supported by lively acidity and a clear chalky minerality that bring drive and precision to the structure, while a fine, creamy perlage carries the development through to a chalky, balanced finish of great length.
