Champagne Henriot
Souverain
The Champagne Souverain carries the historic legacy of Maison Henriot, where it was created in 1808 by Apolline Henriot, who wished to give voice to her lands through a great Champagne. Convinced that a single year was not enough to tell the personality of the terroirs, Apolline chose to set aside reserve wines every year for the final blend, giving rise to a multi-cru, multi-vintage cuvée that still brings together the different crus of the vineyard today, each captured at different stages of its evolution.
This edition, based on the 2021 harvest, relies mainly on Pinot Noir grapes at 50%, alongside 41% Chardonnay and 9% Meunier, sourced from 29 crus that each add their own expression without ever overshadowing the others, together with a generous 49% of vin de réserve that brings depth, breadth and continuity to the Maison’s style. Vinification and fermentation take place in stainless steel tanks to preserve the purity of the fruit and the clear expression of each cru, while after tirage the wine ages on its lees for at least four years. The final dosage of up to 5 g/l, in the Brut style, completes the balance of this blend, enhancing its complexity and precision.
On tasting, Souverain reveals a rich and layered aromatic range, a true ballet of aromas in which generous notes of pastry meet the freshness of citrus fruit, while smoky hints gradually evolve towards pure chalk, alongside a basket of stone fruits and small red fruits. On the palate it is ample, straightforward and round, with a harmonious structure and a long, persistent freshness that carries the finish with great clarity.
