Champagne Gaspard Brochet
Le Renard Tome III
The Champagne Le Renard from Domaine Les Croix by Gaspard Brochet is an expression of rare intensity and depth, coming from the lieu-dit Les Croix in the Premier Cru of Écueil, from a vineyard planted in 1959 by Henri Brochet. The compact brown sand soil gives the wine structure, density and a firm mineral character. It is the emblem of the artisanal and experimental vision of the Écueil vigneron, on the south-western slope of the Montagne de Reims. With this Blanc de Noirs, Gaspard continues his exploration of the living matter of Pinot Noir, investigating the deep bond between soil, oxygen and time, in a project where technical rigour and creative freedom live together in perfect harmony.
This edition, Tome III with a 2023 base harvest, is made solely from Pinot Noir grapes. Vinification takes place by gravity in small fût de chêne, without fining, racking or filtration and with unfilled barrels, encouraging a slight controlled oxidation that enriches the aromatic profile and amplifies the complexity of the wine. After the tirage comes ageing on the lees for a minimum of 24 months, completed by a final dosage of 1 g/l, in Extra Brut style, to preserve the purest expression of the terroir and the authentic character of Pinot Noir.
On the palate, Le Renard Tome III stands out for a dense and enveloping matter, in which the full structure of Pinot Noir finds a counterpoint in the mineral tension of the brown sand soil. The gentle controlled oxidation brings breadth and depth without weighing it down, while the almost negligible dosage leaves the palate taut and straight. The balance arises from the dialogue between power and freshness, and the persistence is long, saline and vibrant, faithful to the identity of the Écueil terroir.
