Champagne De Venoge

Cordon Bleu Millésime 2018

The Champagne Millésime by De Venoge belongs to the Cordon Bleu selection, the Maison's emblem since 1851, whose famous blue band on the label evokes the Venoge river in the Swiss Canton of Vaud, the watercourse from which the family itself took its surname and which over time has become its most recognisable symbol. Cordon Bleu was born with a clear stylistic imprint built on Pinot Noir, a variety that grants it roundness and a distinctive vinosity, establishing itself over the decades as the true backbone of the Maison's very identity.

This edition, Vintage 2018, shows a clear predominance of Pinot Noir grapes from the Premier and Grand Cru villages of Ambonnay, Cumières, Grauves and Mailly, joined by 25% Chardonnay selected in Mesnil-sur-Oger and Bisseuil. After tirage, it undergoes a long ageing on its own lees for a minimum of five years, lending depth and definition to a blend capable of uniting the structure and vinosity of Pinot Noir with the mineral tension of the Côte des Blancs terroirs.

On tasting, Cordon Bleu Millésime 2018 stands out for its full, vinous structure, sustained by a lively freshness that sets its rhythm and balances its breadth with measure. The texture is fine and deep, capable of combining maturity and energy in a cohesive whole of great compactness. On the palate it develops with breadth and progression, closing on a long, deep persistence in which vigour and finesse coexist with elegance and continuity.

De Venoge

The story of Maison de Venoge begins in Switzerland, on the shores of Lake Geneva, where the river Venoge flows into the lake and from which the family takes its name. Henri-Marc de Venoge left his homeland and settled in Champagne, founding "de Venoge & Cie" in 1837 at Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, one of the region's most renowned areas, together with his son Joseph. As early as 1838 the Maison achieved a true revolution: the first illustrated label in the history of Champagne, conceived to offer the nobility of the day not only a great wine, but a precious and elegant object to grace the centre of the table.

In 1851 the Cordon Bleu trademark was registered, an iconic label with a blue band chosen as the Maison's emblem to evoke both the river La Venoge and the Order of the Saint-Esprit, the most celebrated order of chivalry of the French monarchy. In 1858 the Cuvée Princes were born in honour of the Dutch royal house, still presented today in a bottle that recalls the decanters used by the European aristocracy, while 2005 saw the debut of the Cuvée de Prestige "Louis XV", a tribute to the sovereign who, on 25 May 1728, authorised the shipping of Champagne wines alone in bottle, marking the birth of modern Champagne.
