Rare Millésime 2008

Rare Champagne preserves in every Millésime a heritage dating back to 1885, when for the centenary of the cuvée presented by Piper-Heidsieck to Marie Antoinette the jeweller Pierre-Karl Fabergé envisioned an enamel decoration that, too fragile for the crystal, lives on today in the foil that forms its habillage. From that vintage springs a rigorous selection that in more than forty years has declared only fourteen vintages, each one born of an atypical year, of the expertise of the Chef de caves and of the time of rest.

This edition, Millésime 2008, comes from a year with a mild, damp and dull start, followed by fine summer weather that accompanied a perfect ripening, with the harvest completed within the first fortnight of a radiant September. Universally celebrated as an exceptional vintage in Champagne, it yields a wine of unlimited potential for growth, youth and complexity, able to hold all the emotions of a pure and infinite spring.

In tasting, Rare Champagne 2008 stands out for a fine and joyful effervescence and for the intensity of a crystalline gold that recalls a yellow diamond, opening a nose of rectilinear purity of orange blossom, hyacinth and white flowers, which evolves towards vanilla flower, fresh coconut, Williams pear and almond, enlivened by mandarin and blackcurrant. On the palate the sensations multiply among pineapple, passion fruit, kiwi, coconut and tart citrus, through to a finish of extraordinary iodine salinity that prolongs the idea of a pure and infinite spring.
