Champagne André Beaufort
Ambonnay Vinothèque 2003
The Champagne Ambonnay Vinothèque by André Beaufort is produced from a blend of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay sourced exclusively from the Grand Cru vineyards of Ambonnay, in the Montagne de Reims. It is one of the most emblematic cuvées of Beaufort’s entire production, embodying the vigneron’s natural philosophy: indigenous yeasts, spontaneous fermentations, and the exclusive use of natural sugars—grape must and concentrated grape juice—for the tirage. A radical, highly distinctive style that has made Ambonnay Vinothèque a true collector’s item, sought after for its longevity and its character well outside contemporary conventions.
This Millésime 2003 edition, recently disgorged, benefited from approximately 17 years of ageing on the lees, a defining factor in its depth, complexity, and remarkable ageing potential. The wine is released with a low final dosage, in Brut style, as a pure and unmediated expression of the Ambonnay terroir. Manual riddling and disgorgement à la volée complete a production process that fully respects traditional Champagne methods.
On tasting, Ambonnay Vinothèque 2003 reveals a complex and harmonious profile, where mature fruit coexists with a still-vibrant sense of tension. The nose opens with notes of ripe apple and candied citrus, followed by nuances of yeast, must, honey, and dried fruit, with spicy and toasted hints that reflect the long ageing period. On the palate, the structure is broad and enveloping, supported by a fine, creamy texture and perfectly integrated bubbles; minerality guides the progression, bringing balance and precision to a rich core. The finish is long and persistent, with a mature yet dynamic conclusion that confirms the wine’s strong ageing vocation—an intense, contemplative, and deeply individual Champagne, crafted for enthusiasts seeking authentic, uncompromising expressions.
