Les Pommiers 2018

The Champagne Les Pommiers by Philippe Lancelot is a Blanc de Noirs made from 100% Meunier, sourced from the Lieu-dit “Les Pommiers”, a 0.23-hectare parcel located on the slopes above Épernay, at the northern edge of the Côte des Blancs. Here, the chalk and clay–limestone soils, combined with an eastern exposure, give the Meunier energy, freshness, and a fine mineral tension. The Lancelot family, now led by Philippe, has been farming these vines according to a certified organic and biodynamic (Demeter) approach since 2012, in order to preserve soil vitality and the expressive purity of the terroir.

The 2018 harvest, balanced and generous, produced grapes of remarkable aromatic intensity and phenolic maturity. Vinification occurs through spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, partly in stainless steel and partly in oak barrels, followed by several months of aging on fine lees. After tirage, the wine rests on its lees for at least 36 months before dégorgement. The final dosage of 1.5 g/L, in Extra Brut style, and the absence of added sulfites during vinification highlight its precise and natural character.

On the palate, Les Pommiers Édition 2018 opens with aromas of quince, white peach, and ripe yellow fruits, enriched by nuances of brioche, hay, and citrus zest. The taste is taut and vibrant, marked by a sharp mineral backbone and a long, saline persistence, finishing on notes of flint and dried fruits. The fineness of the bubbles, balance on the palate, and depth of flavor define a Blanc de Noirs of great energy and precision, a perfect expression of Meunier in the most authentic Philippe Lancelot style.
