La Vigne à Alfred 2019
The Champagne La Vigne à Alfred by Minière F&R represents a single parcel of Meunier more than 72 years old, grown in Hermonville, a village north-west of Reims in the Massif de Saint-Thierry, where vines have been cultivated since the 12th century. The name recalls Alfred, the great-grandfather who in 1919 started the family business with his own press, and the choice to dedicate a cuvée to such old vines confirms the family’s bond with Meunier, the most widely planted grape variety on the estate.
This edition, Vintage 2019, comes from a warm year with low yields and is a Blanc de Noirs made exclusively from Meunier grapes, with vinification and maturation in fûts de chêne for 8 months, which adds breadth and structure to the wine. After tirage comes a long ageing on the lees of 5 years, while the final dosage of 2 g/l, in an Extra Brut style, faithfully preserves the expression of the grape variety.
On tasting, La Vigne à Alfred 2019 shows a rich and fruity profile, supported by a broad, full structure that finds the right balance in lively, well-integrated acidity, keeping the fruit precise, ripe and never tired, also thanks to the restrained dosage. On the palate the texture is creamy, dense and enveloping, with a steady, consistent progression that carries the whole without faltering towards a long, savoury finish of great depth and remarkable persistence. Production in a limited run of 1,447 bottles.
