Champagne Minière F&R
Les Moineaux 2019
The Champagne Les Moineaux by Minière F&R is the second single-plot cuvée of the Domaine, created in 2014 to express a precise corner of Hermonville, a village of the Massif de Saint-Thierry northwest of Reims. It comes from two adjoining plots in the lieu-dit of the same name, planted with Chardonnay in 1963 and 1972 through massal selection, covering a total area of just over a third of a hectare. The old vines grow deep into sandy and silty-sandy soils, light and free-draining, which give this Blanc de Blancs a crystalline tension and a rare mineral purity, making it a singular and strongly characterful expression of terroir.
This edition, 2019 Vintage, is vinified and fermented in old oak barrels aged 5 to 8 years with indigenous yeasts, followed by eight months of maturation with regular bâtonnage. After tirage comes ageing on the lees for at least 5 years, while the final dosage of 3 g/l, in Extra Brut style, carefully preserves the transparency of the Chardonnay and the expressive clarity of the two plots.
On tasting, Les Moineaux 2019 shows a bright straw-yellow hue enlivened by a fine, lively perlage. The nose opens precise and delicate, with notes of lemon and yuzu, white flowers such as hawthorn and acacia, and a touch of toasted almond that recalls the time in wood and the long ageing on the lees. On the palate it is vibrant and crystalline, supported by a firm natural acidity that carries fresh citrus and green apple towards a refined minerality. The structure is taut, the texture airy and elegant, and the finish long and saline.
