Champagne Louis Roederer
Vintage 2016
The Champagne Vintage by Louis Roederer is born as an expressive synthesis of the Montagne de Reims terroir, where the Maison has always built its own idea of finesse, precision and harmony. It is a vintage that symbolically marks the end of an era, as climate change and the evolution of viticultural practices have gradually given more room to the identity of the Verzy Pinot Noirs, interpreted here as the backbone of the wine. The north-east exposures slow down ripening, preserving tension and freshness, while time becomes a key element in defining the personality of the Vintage.
This edition, Vintage 2016, comes from a year of marked climatic contrasts and shows a prevalence of Pinot Noir grapes flanked by 32% Chardonnay, with a 33% share aged in oak casks that broadens its structure and aromatic complexity. After tirage the wine undergoes around 48 months of ageing on the lees, completed by at least six months of rest in the cellar after dégorgement, so as to fully bring its slow, progressive evolution to completion.
On tasting it shows particularly complete, with a profile of crunchy fruit and a pleasant creaminess in which flavours of sugary fruits, candied citrus and dried fruit interweave from the very first with delicate mineral notes. On the palate the structure is generous and complex, sustained by a juicy, creamy weave and by an expressive fruit enriched with mineral touches, spicy and woody notes, culminating in a long, vibrant and intensely saline finish.
