Le Mont en Peine
The Champagne Le Mont en Peine by Lagille comes to life in Treslon, in the Vallée de l'Ardre, from the lieu-dit of the same name, a plot of old Chardonnay vines on soils rich in clay and limestone, in the true homeland of the Domaine. This Blanc de Blancs embodies the parcel-driven vision of a family of winegrowers, built on the idea of a wine able to express a single grape variety, a single plot and a single vintage, conveying with precision and transparency all the minerality of a chalky terroir rooted in a long family history.
This edition, 2021 harvest, showcases Chardonnay alone through vinification and maturation in small barrels, the preferred choice for this grape variety to broaden its texture without masking its acidic drive. After tirage, the wine rests on the lees for over 24 months, lending finesse and refinement to the perlage. With no final dosage, in a Brut Nature style, the wine chooses utmost purity, letting acidity and mineral matter guide its character.
On tasting, Le Mont en Peine reveals a crystalline, sharp profile, marked by lively citrus, grapefruit zest, green apple and a hint of salted caramel. The palate stands out for its measured weight and taut progression, supported by an energetic acidity that runs through the palate with drive and precision. The finish, dry and chalky, weaves lime peel together with notes of toasted almond, confirming a remarkable persistence and a verticality that express the depth of this plot. Production in a limited run of 1,504 bottles.
