Rosé 29ème Édition

In 1976, the story of Krug Rosé began, born from the bold vision of the fifth generation of the Krug family. It was the brothers Rémi and Henri Krug who, on a warm harvest day, gave life to an idea as unexpected as it was daring. Inspired by the nonconformist spirit of founder Joseph Krug, a rosé Champagne thus came into being, one capable of standing out for its finesse, depth, and evocative power. After meticulous tastings, the first blend was presented to the world in 1983. A dream renewed each year in a new Édition, the expression of a unique and unmistakable interpretation of rosé.

This 29ème Édition, built around the 2017 harvest, brings together 29 wines from 5 different years, ranging from 2010 to 2017, with a 33% contribution of reserve wines drawn from the Maison's extensive library. The cuvée is composed of 53% Pinot Noir — including 11% vinified as red wine according to tradition — 28% Chardonnay, and 19% Meunier. The 2017 vintage posed significant climatic challenges: from spring frosts to summer diseases, through a hot, dry spell that rescued the remaining grapes and allowed for an early harvest, between 25 August and 15 September. Two traditionally macerated Pinot Noirs — Les Crayons (Mutigny, 2017) and Côte Valnon (Aÿ, 2016) — lend the blend depth and tension.

On tasting, Krug Rosé 29ème Édition reveals a salmon hue with coppery reflections. On the nose, it opens with aromas of raspberry, strawberry, juicy cherry, and toasty notes. On the palate it is broad and complex, with nuances of red fruits, raspberry pastry, ladyfingers, and dried plum, interwoven with blood orange and elegant, slightly bitter accents of pink grapefruit on the finish.

Maison Krug was founded in 1843 from the vision of Joseph Krug, a man guided by an uncompromising philosophy and by the conviction that the true essence of Champagne is pleasure itself. His dream was to offer the very best Champagne possible every year, regardless of climate variations, giving rise to the first Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée. In 1848 he committed his vision to a dark cherry notebook, beginning a tradition of transmission that has reached Olivier Krug, the sixth generation now at the helm of the Maison, and is interpreted by Cellar Master Julie Cavil.

The Maison is still based in Reims today, but its historic sites span the whole of Champagne, from the historic Family House, with its old cellars, to the iconic Clos that represent it. In 2024, after seven years of work, the new Joseph winery was inaugurated, built at the Clos d'Ambonnay. It is an entirely eco-designed facility, HQE certified with an "exceptional" rating, that brings together all winemaking activities in a single space, blending discreetly into the landscape. Here, tradition and contemporary energy coexist in perfect balance.

Krug's philosophy revolves around individuality, where each plot is harvested, pressed and vinified separately, without hierarchy, to capture the distinctive character of each terroir. Every year the Tasting Committee appraises around four hundred wines before the art of blending. The Maison is home to two walled Clos: the Clos du Mesnil, 1.84 hectares in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, known for the purity of its Chardonnay, and the Clos d'Ambonnay, 0.68 hectares, prized for the depth of its Pinot Noir. Two terroirs that well represent Krug's approach, where every plot gives life to a wine of unique character.
