La Grande Côte

The Champagne La Grande Côte by Domaine Léon originates from the eponymous Lieu-Dit in Landreville, one of the most expressive areas of the Côte des Bar for the cultivation of Chardonnay. Sourced from a historic parcel of the Domaine, the wine represents one of the purest interpretations of the clay-limestone soils of Kimmeridgian origin, yielding a profile that combines mineral energy, aromatic elegance, and strong territorial identity. Clément Robert conceives La Grande Côte as a precise Blanc de Blancs, focused on highlighting the finesse and brightness of the grape variety within this pedological context.

The 2022 vintage serves as the base year for this edition, vinified with an approach that emphasizes the separate interpretation of each parcel. Fermentations take place individually and continue with an ageing period of 10 months in barrique, followed by an additional 4 months in stainless steel before the final blend. After tirage, great attention is devoted to time management: 20 months on the lees, disgorgement à la volée, and no added dosage, in Brut Nature style, to preserve the purest expression of both the grape and the site.

On the palate, La Grande Côte opens with notes of citrus, white flowers, and light-fleshed fruits, accompanied by hints of chalk, fresh almond, and subtle spicy nuances. The palate is linear and refined, marked by precise acidity that interacts with a vertical, vibrant minerality. The structure is essential yet deep, supported by an elegant texture and a profile that unites purity and tension. The finish is long, saline, and perfectly dry, reflecting both the complexity of the Côte des Bar soils and the rigorous character of the Brut Nature style.
