Dom Pérignon has a creative ambition: the relentless pursuit of harmony as a source of emotion. Every creative process has its constraints, and for Dom Pérignon that constraint is the vintage—an absolute commitment to bearing witness to the harvest of one single year, whatever the challenge, even if it means choosing not to declare a vintage. Time is fundamental in the Dom Pérignon equation. At least eight years of elaboration are required to achieve the Maison’s aesthetic ideal. In the darkness of the cellars, inside the bottles, the wine undergoes an active transformation in contact with the lees, in order to attain the harmony that defines Dom Pérignon. It is there that everything happens, with great precision, on the edge of extraordinary balance.

The 2017 vintage has been remembered as one of the most complex of the past fifteen years. Spring frosts in April, followed by an unsettled and unstable summer, put the vineyards under severe strain, creating a fragile balance from the earliest stages of growth. In mid-August, the sudden spread of botrytis significantly affected Pinot Noir, particularly in the southern Montagne de Reims and the Vallée de la Marne. Harvest began on August 17 and unfolded under intense scrutiny, requiring strict sorting and rigorous decisions in the vineyard. In such a delicate context, only a few Houses—among them Dom Pérignon—were able to declare the vintage, the result of meticulous work and selection of absolute precision.

On the palate, Dom Pérignon Vintage 2017 expresses a Chardonnay of remarkable clarity, driven by a bright, citrus freshness that favors a sharper rather than solar profile. The aromatic bouquet opens with yellow flowers and ripe citrus, gradually unfolding into notes of candied fruit and pastry cream, with subtle hints of aromatic herbs. Deeper, spicier tones emerge on the finish, with touches of licorice and sweet wood. The structure is tense and vibrant, defined by dynamic momentum rather than enveloping softness. The initial impression of roundness quickly gives way to a mineral, saline trajectory, with a refined bitter and iodine-tinged return that extends the persistence and underscores its expressive precision.
