The Champagne La Grande Dame by Veuve Clicquot represents the twenty-fifth edition of the iconic cuvée created in 1972 in tribute to Madame Clicquot, nicknamed the grande dame of Champagne. Born to express the essence of the Maison's style and the bold vision of its founder, it celebrates the power and purity of Pinot Noir in a dialogue between strength and finesse, depth and precision, embodying that rare balance between fidelity to tradition and momentum towards modernity that has made this name one of the most celebrated in Champagne.
This twenty-fourth edition, Vintage 2015, is celebrated by a dedicated label and coffret created by Paola Paronetto, the first Italian artist chosen by the Maison to interpret the cuvée's packaging, a master of colour known for her paper clay sculptures and for a personal palette of over eighty nature-inspired shades. A chromatic tribute that reflects the harmony of a solar year, built on a clear predominance of Pinot Noir grapes from the finest plots of the Montagne de Reims, among Verzenay, Verzy, Ambonnay and Bouzy, and of the Grande Vallée de la Marne at Aÿ, joined by the freshness of Chardonnay grapes harvested in the Grand Cru of the Côte des Blancs, at Avize, Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Vinification takes place in stainless steel and after tirage comes a prolonged maturation on the lees of at least six years, while the final dosage, in Brut style, accompanies the substance with absolute measure.
On the palate, La Grande Dame 2015 presents itself with a golden robe of luminous reflections, crossed by a fine and creamy perlage that anticipates a silky palate of rare elegance, where a fresh initial note gives way to powerful and bold accords still vibrant with freshness. The structure is full and deep, sustained by a chiselled acidity and a salinity that sculpts the palate, in a balance played on the contrast between aromatic richness and mineral tension. The persistence closes extremely long, vibrant and rhythmic, leaving a finish of rare precision and emotion.
