Les Passagers "Haut de Val Barmont"

The Champagne Les Passagers "Haut de Val Barmont" by Clandestin is a Blanc de Blancs obtained entirely from Chardonnay grapes, capable of celebrating the purity and authenticity of the Côte des Bar through a crystalline and identity-driven expression. The philosophy of this cuvée enhances the most essential soul of the territory, returning to the bottle the voice of a microterroir sculpted by clay over limestone and by an exposure that amplifies mineral tension and vertical depth.

This edition, from the 2023 harvest, is based entirely on Chardonnay grapes gathered in Ville-sur-Arce from west-facing vines, with vinification and spontaneous fermentation carried out without the addition of sulphites to preserve the integrity of the fruit. After tirage follows an ageing of around 18 months on the lees with dégorgement without final dosage, in Brut Nature style, enhancing varietal transparency and the precise signature of the soil of origin.

On tasting, Les Passagers unveils a very fine and continuous perlage that accompanies a vibrant and taut entry, where the subtle salinity traces a linear progression of rare precision. On the palate a slender and crystalline structure emerges, sustained by nervy acidity that amplifies the dialogue between transparency and energy, while the finish prolongs a savoury and luminous trail, sculpted by a chalky minerality that confers clarity and persistence.

Clandestin

Champagne Clandestin was founded in 2016 and is currently managed by Benoît Doussot, originally from Burgundy, who created his Domaine in Landreville, in the Côte des Bar. The name “Clandestin” reflects his independent approach and the desire to highlight less conventional vineyards, often overlooked by more established producers. The Domaine represents a unique synthesis between two great French wine regions: Burgundy, with its depth and elegance, and Champagne, with the freshness and minerality characteristic of its terroirs.

The production at Clandestin is based on a principle of enological minimalism, avoiding unnecessary additions and favoring indigenous yeasts for fermentation. The grapes come mainly from Pinot Noir parcels located in cooler vineyards, facing west and rooted in Kimmeridgian soils, which provide minerality and the ability to fully express the natural freshness of the variety. All vineyards are Ecocert certified and cultivated according to strict standards, fully respecting sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices.
