The history of the Drappier family began in the 13th century, when Saint Bernard built a block of flats in Urville for the Abbey Clairvaux, which is still the company office. The family was already involved in the wine business during Napoleon era. In the 20th century, the Champagne Drappier was the favourite of the General De Gaulle, especially during his retirement in Colombey-les Deux-Eglises.
In the late 90s these Champagnes conquered the English and Japanese market, thanks to their top quality. The Drappier cave are still the ones built in the 13th century by the Cistercian monks and they are a unique attraction for the company. The company owns 35 hectares of Pinot Noir and one of the best and most innovative cave in the region, below the Middle-Age complex.
The family is run bu the young Michel Drappier, with an Enology Degree in Dijon, in the heart of Bourgogne. The small maison is still independent, despite the massive financial acquisitions of the recent years. The annual production is around 600,000 bottles, particularly loved by loyal customers.
