Bastien Pointillart

Among the most compelling new voices in contemporary Champagne, Bastien Pointillart stands out for a clear and unconventional choice: giving priority to still wines in a region historically known for bubbles. In Chamery, a Premier Cru village in the Montagne de Reims, he has launched a micro-production of coteaux champenois, now finally unveiled. His style is essential and sincere: making wines he enjoys drinking, without unnecessary technicalities. An approach in line with a new generation of winemakers who are redefining the boundaries of Champagne tradition.

Within the Coteaux Champenois AOC, which includes whites, reds, rosés, and more experimental styles, Bastien Pointillart offers free-spirited and identity-driven wines, such as his 2020 macerated Chardonnay. In a cool and complex climate, crafting mature still wines requires late harvests, low yields, and precise vinifications. While climate change poses challenges, it has also opened new expressive possibilities. Bastien embraces this shift to shape a different kind of Champagne—one made of honest wines, deeply rooted in their terroir.

Bastien Pointillart’s journey began in 2014, when he started vinifying select plots from the family vineyard, previously delivered to the local cooperative. Without a cellar of his own, he relied on fellow winemakers like Domaine Bertrand-Delespierre, where he produced his first vintages until 2017. These wines, aged slowly in bottle, were destined to become either Champagne or Coteaux Champenois, depending on the vintage. The turning point came in 2018, when he renovated his grandparents’ cellar in Chamery, installed his own pressoir, and gained full production autonomy.

From that moment on, the project took a clear direction: slow maturationtargeted macerations, and meticulous attention to detail. Bastien Pointillart has remained committed to still wines, while staying open to producing Champagne when the vintage demands it, as in the challenging 2021. His cuvées, released under his own name or the Pointillart-Baillet label, reflect a new sensibility rooted in attentiveness, experimentation, and respect. An authentic voice in Champagne, capable of honoring the land while exploring new paths.
