Champagne Georges Laval
Les Vignes de Mon Oncle
The Champagne Les Vignes de Mon Oncle by Vincent Laval reveals a deeply personal dimension of the work carried out by Domaine Georges Laval in Cumières Premier Cru, within the Vallée de la Marne. This cuvée was created as a tribute to the vineyards once cultivated by François Laval, Vincent’s uncle, historic parcels now reinterpreted through a rigorous and profoundly terroir-driven vision. Some of these vines were planted between the 1940s and the 1960s and are rooted in chalky, limestone and clay soils with south and south-east exposures, in one of the most highly regarded areas of the Vallée de la Marne.
This first edition, based on the 2021 and 2022 harvests, is produced from an assemblage of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier grapes sourced exclusively from the family parcels in Cumières. Vincent Laval chose to combine the tension and concentration of the challenging 2021 vintage with the brighter and more open character of 2022, creating a Champagne of remarkable balance and depth. Vinification and maturation in fût de chêne take place with spontaneous fermentations from indigenous yeasts, without fining or filtration, following an approach focused on preserving the purest expression of the terroir. After tirage, the wine spends a minimum of 24 months ageing on the lees, with manual remuage and traditional dégorgement. Without final dosage, in Brut Nature style, it consistently reflects the artisanal and identity-driven philosophy of Domaine Georges Laval.
In tasting, Les Vignes de Mon Oncle displays an intense and layered profile where ripe citrus, yellow apple, aromatic herbs and delicate brioche notes intertwine with a pronounced chalky and saline character. On the palate it reveals remarkable energy, with a broad yet always taut texture supported by vibrant acidity and incisive minerality that carries through to a long and persistent finish. The oak remains perfectly integrated, adding complexity without ever weighing down the wine’s expression.
