The Champagne L'Opiniâtre by Mouzon Leroux is a Blanc de Blancs made from 100% Chardonnay, the fruit of the vines of the Grand Cru village of Verzy, in the Montagne de Reims, farmed biodynamically and according to the principles of agroforestry. Its name, evoking the idea of that which resists and persists, obstinate in its own character, tells of a wine of rare authenticity, where the clay-limestone soils rich in flint bestow mineral tension, energy and a complexity of profound expressive intensity.

This edition, Vintage 2017, tells the story of a vibrant and luminous year, capable of expressing all the vitality of this terroir. Vinification and maturation take place in fûts de chêne with indigenous yeasts, without fining or filtration and without any addition of sulphites, in an approach of absolute naturalness. After tirage, the wine ages for over 60 months on its own lees before dégorgement, developing finesse and aromatic intensity. With no final dosage, in Brut Nature style, it guarantees the utmost fidelity to the vintage and the terroir.

On tasting, L'Opiniâtre 2017 reveals a luminous golden-yellow colour animated by a fine, persistent perlage, foreshadowing an aromatic range in which ripe citrus, yellow fruit and white flowers intertwine with notes of hazelnut, fresh almond and bread crust, with elegant mineral and chalky echoes. On the palate it shows itself taut and vertical, with an incisive, saline texture supported by a vibrant freshness, leading to a long, pure and layered finish. Production in a limited run of 2,270 bottles.
