The Champagne Lutétien by Legrand-Latour originates from a singular terroir, where geology tells the story of a long-vanished tropical sea. The soil of Vandières, composed of calcareous sand rich in shell fossils, bears witness to the presence of an ancient marine basin dating back approximately 45 million years (Lutetian epoch), which once extended as far as Champagne. It is precisely from this mineral matrix that a wine is born, one that unites geological depth with contemporary precision.

The equal blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir – 2020 harvest – is vinified using artisanal methods: 12 months in oak barrels, with no invasive intervention. The tirage, carried out in September 2021 with the addition of grape must, is followed by a long ageing on the lees for a minimum of 42 months. With a limited production of 2,623 bottles, this cuvée is released with no final dosage – Brut Nature –, as a true expression of both its origin and vintage.

On tasting, Lutétien shows a bright yellow hue and a very fine perlage. The nose evokes a marine and mineral world: chalky notes, taut citrus, crisp apple, and hints of white flowers, accompanied by briny and iodized nuances that reflect the fossil-rich character of the soil. On the palate, it is tense, dry, incisive, with a vibrant structure that brings together energy, sapidity, and aromatic precision. An essential and conscious Champagne, born from a vision that fuses nature, time, and craftsmanship in perfect harmony.
