Champagne Emeline De Sloovere

N°1 - L'Oublié

The Champagne Éphémère N°1 L’Oublié by Emeline De Sloovere opens a series of cuvées conceived as unrepeatable snapshots, designed to capture and preserve the character of a precise moment through careful viticulture with cover crops, estate-made compost and herbal teas. Its name evokes the time left to pass quietly in the family cellars, preserving the expression of the clay-limestone soils from Mancy and Monthelon, in the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay.

This N°1 edition, based on the 2012 harvest, is made from Meunier and Chardonnay grapes in equal parts, with vinification and maturation designed to preserve the purity of the fruit and the natural balance between the rounded generosity of the first variety and the slender tension of the second. After tirage comes an extraordinary 114-month ageing on the lees, after which it is released with no final dosage, in the Brut Nature style.

On tasting, Éphémère N°1 L’Oublié reveals itself as deep and layered, with a broad, mature structure that finds balance in a still vibrant freshness and a fine, creamy mousse, able to carry its development with great harmony and remarkable consistency throughout. On the palate, a savoury vein supports a long, mineral finish, with intense persistence recalling dried fruit, toasted notes and pastry, closing with exemplary precision and clarity. Production in a limited run of 415 bottles.

Emeline De Sloovere

Emeline De Sloovere is a young vigneronne who passionately carries forward the legacy of five generations of vignerons, born from the union of the De Sloovere and Pienne families. An oenologist who now leads the Domaine alongside her mother Chantal, she took over from her grandfather Alain Pienne in 2015, after a period of training in the United States that taught her innovative techniques and a modern vision of wine, placed from the very start at the service of family tradition.

The Domaine is based in Brugny, on the heights of the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay, just a few minutes from Épernay. Here, on her return from the United States, Emeline renewed the work in both vineyard and cellar, where each parcel is vinified separately in small wooden barrels to bring out its character. The Domaine is also a place of hospitality, open for visits and tastings, where family tradition and a contemporary outlook live side by side with ease.

Since 2016 the eight hectares of vineyard, mostly Meunier and Chardonnay with a small share of Pinot Noir, have been farmed without herbicides or pesticides, with grass cover between the rows. Trees, flowers and birdhouses bring the estate to life, together with the organic vegetable garden opened in 2020, a permaculture laboratory that supplies the farm-to-table kitchen and that Emeline aims to extend to the vineyard. From this balance with nature come sincere, vibrant Champagnes, well worth discovering to know the most mindful face of this terroir.
