The Champagne Les Montjolys 2014 is the Cuvée Spéciale by Pierre Peters, a Blanc de Blancs from 100% Chardonnay grapes, the fruit of the harvest of the same-name parcel - lieu-dit - located in the territory of Grand Cru Le-Mesnil-sur-Oger.
This Lieu-Dit has a higher percentage of clay and the soil is deeper than most others in the village of Le-Mesnil-sur-Oger. The grapes used to make this extremely rare and sought-after Cuvée come from seven plots in this vineyard. The grapes are vinified separately and undergo different vinifications, resting at least 6 years on their lees before disgorging with a final dosage of approximately 4 g/l.
The Champagne Les Montjolys 2014 is light yellow in colour with green notes typical of Chardonnay. The mousse is fine and regular with a fine ribbon of strong bubbles. To the nose it opens on a bouquet of white flowers and freshly baked bread, evolving towards citrus fruits. This is followed by notes of biscuit and hazelnut, giving way to a vivid chalky minerality. On the palate, the attack is very pure and intense. Aromas of green apple quickly give way to a centre of confit lemon, lime blossom and sweet spices. The finish, tight but of extreme length, remembers of almond and chalk and probably has a less youthful austerity than its brother Les Chétillons.
Let it rest for a moment in the glass before tasting it, then you will notice the delicacy and splendid balance that surrounds it. All the power and minerality of the limestone and clay soil of Le-Mesnil is expressed in this fantastic Champagne Blanc de Blancs.
Pierre Péters is a famous name between Champagne lovers, due to the pureness of its Blanc de Blancs, expressing a natural coherence with the magic terroir in Le-Mesnil-sur-Oger. In the village, the Domaine was founded at the beginning of the 20th century with Camille (first year of vintage 1919), but was officially inaugurated in 1940 with Pierre, whose son François later inherited, while his second son, Jacques, started a brilliant career as enologist and later became the Chef de Cave for Veuve Clicquot and worked there for over 30 years. Today Pierre Péters is managed by Rodolphe Péters, enologist, caring about organic cultivation which he has applied to the 18 hectares and to his Champagnes in Côte des Blancs, all classified as 100% Grand Cru.
