Winemaker

Champagne Le Brun de Neuville

For over 150 years, the Le Brun family has been living in the village of Bethon, near the town of Sézanne within the Côte de Sézanne. The memory of Madame Le Brun who owned the castle in 1845 is still alive today. Le Brun de Neuville inherited its name thanks to the action of the noble heiress of the Château de Bethon, Madame de Reviers, one of the founders of the Maison. In 1963, André Vandier, Madame de Reviers and 26 winegrowers who were passionate about their work came together to create "La Crayère" with a family spirit that would guide them over the years. United by their passion, some 170 winegrowers now form the Le Brun de Neuville "family", sharing their knowledge, resources and traditions to create a range of Champagnes of great interest. On the limestone hills of the Côte de Sézanne, where Chardonnay shapes the landscape, Le Brun de Neuville's committed viticulture enables it to develop an enlightened range, marked by its terroir and the high quality of those who contribute to it. The vineyard covers some 150 hectares, the bulk of which were planted more than 30 years ago and mainly on the undulating slopes of the Sézannais. The vineyard is planted mainly to Chardonnay (88%) followed by Pinot Noir (11%) and Meunier (1%) and all supplies come exclusively from the vineyards of Le Brun de Neuville's members. The Côte des Sézanne rests on a bed of chalk covered by a few centimetres of soil, composed of calcite granules. Its high porosity makes it a real reservoir of water, guaranteeing the plant a sufficient supply, even in the driest of summers. Le Brun de Neuville has specialised in Champagne Blanc de Blancs. Their Chardonnays are characterised by delicate aromas, floral notes, citrus fruits, and sometimes minerals; this "slow-moving" truth is the ideal variety for their long ageing periods. Pinot Noir, on the other hand, brings roundness, body and length to the palate of the remaining Cuvées.
