Champagne Sacy Soeur & Frère
Les Chardonnays Perchés
The Champagne Les Chardonnays Perchés by Sacy Sœur & Frère is a Blanc de Blancs that takes Chardonnay up high, to a south-facing plot near Cernay-lès-Reims, from the Montagne de Reims, where the full light of the slope supports balanced ripening of the grapes. It is the cuvée through which Yaël and Jonathan Sacy explore new expressions of the grape on the family estate, seeking varietal purity and terroir authenticity through an artisanal and minimalist approach, guided by organic viticulture that pays close attention to the vitality of the soils.
This edition, 2023 harvest, comes from a year that gave grapes of great balance and aromatic tension, fully vinified and matured in oak barrels (fût de chêne) to gain complexity and structure without losing the clarity of the fruit, with a rigorous choice that excludes any added sulphites. After tirage, the wine ages on the lees for around 24 months, gaining depth and texture, while the absence of final dosage, in Brut Nature style, delivers an essential and direct expression in which raw material and sense of place remain the absolute protagonists.
On tasting, Les Chardonnays Perchés shows a light golden yellow hue and a fine, continuous perlage. The nose opens with chalky and citrus notes, accompanied by hints of green apple, fresh almond and wildflowers, with the oak remaining in the background in support of complexity. On the palate the attack is clean and vibrant, with a saline vein running through a slender yet incisive structure and leading to a dry, mineral finish that is long and of great expressive purity.
