The Champagne Blanc de Millénaires 2014 by Maison Charles Heidsieck is made of 100% Chardonnay, a real Blanc de Blancs resulting from the blending of the finest and purest terroirs. Only five villages, one Premier Cru and four Grands Crus, make up this Champagne: Vertus, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Avize and Cramant. Vineyards were selected for their ability to develop and fully express their organoleptic opulence and extraordinary sensory composition. It was in 1993 when Charles Heidsieck presented his first Blanc des Millénaires 1983, since then the Maison has unveiled only 8 vintages for its famous Blanc de Blancs: 1983, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2014.

2014 was an extraordinary vintage, the Chardonnays harvested in the Côte des Blancs of remarkable freshness and purity. Almost a decade of waiting - with harmonious ageing in the Maison's crayères - gave this exceptional Cuvée its own personality and aromatic complexity.

The Champagne Blanc de Millénaires 2014 is crystal clear and bright gold to the eye, with an elegant flow of bubbles. On the nose it is fresh, mineral and saline. It then shifts to fruity notes of citrus and kiwi before expressing the classic tertiary aromas that define the Maison's style: puff pastry, brioche, dates and dried apricots. On the palate it has great depth, defined by an elegance that comes from the exceptional fruit of the Chardonnay. Its palate reflects the delicately nuanced flavours of the nose, complemented by a remarkably voluptuous texture and a seemingly endless finish. While already offering a superb tasting experience, the wine has the power and longevity to age as well as previous vintages.

Champagne Charles Heidsieck

The youngest maison, born from Florens-Louis Heidsieck (founded in 1851), is probably one of the most famouse one. This is due to its founder Charles-Camille Heidsieck, who understand the potential of the American market and started exporting big quantities. When the American Civil War broke out, he went to the United States to get his credits back and he was involved in many adventures, such a imprisonment in New Orleans accused of spionage. The Americans called him Champagne Charlie, which today is also the title of his biography and the 1989 movie starring Hugh Grant, about his life. Today Charles-Heidsieck is part of the same group as his cousin Piper-Heidsieck: they have a Chef de Cave (Régis Camus) in common, but not the style. The Champagne Charles Heidsieck are structured and long refined wines, while Piper-Heidsieck prefers freshness and drinking experiences.
