Champagne Charles Heidsieck
La Collection Crayères Charlie Magnum 1982

La Collection Crayères Édition by Charles Heidsieck is an exclusive selection of vintage Champagnes drawn from the Maison’s Private Collection and released in limited quantities. Each bottle has matured for years on its lees in the historic chalk crayères, underground cellars that allow the wines to reach their full aromatic and textural expression. With this collection, the House pays tribute to its heritage, revealing the fruit of decades of savoir-faire. From the depths of these cellars emerge extraordinary cuvées, testaments to an art of blending that defies time with grace and precision. Each vintage stands out for its character and complexity, offering refined structure and a unique aromatic signature. To discover La Collection Crayères is to embark on a journey through time in search of the purest and most radiant essence of Champagne Charles Heidsieck.

La Collection Crayères Charlie 1982 represents one of the most precious and emblematic expressions in the history of Charles Heidsieck, a vintage Champagne that encapsulates, with remarkable intensity, the authentic spirit of 1980s Champagne. Born from a legendary year, the 1982 harvest is remembered as one of the greatest of the century: stable weather conditions, perfect ripening, and a generous crop gave birth to wines of extraordinary purity, balance, and aromatic depth.

The blend of 53% Pinot Noir and 47% Chardonnay, sourced from select parcels in the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs, embodies a perfect balance of power and finesse, representing the quintessential expression of the Charles Heidsieck style. The 1983 tirage, followed by seven years of ageing on the lees in the Maison’s historic chalk cellars and more than thirty years of post-disgorgement rest, has forged an aromatic structure of refined complexity and profound harmony.

On the palate, La Collection Crayères Charlie 1982 Magnum reveals a deep golden hue, animated by a lively effervescence and ultra-fine bubbles. The nose opens with candied citrus, grapefruit, and ginger, followed by fresher tones of mirabelle plum and baked apricot, which lend an unexpected youthfulness. As the wine evolves in the glass, notes of honey and roasted nuances emerge, creating a fascinating interplay between freshness and maturity. The palate is marked by vibrant minerality and a chalky, mouthwatering texture, supported by a creamy, enveloping mouthfeel, a true hallmark of the House’s style. The finish is noble and harmonious, with a measured touch of sweetness that completes the ensemble with elegance and perfect balance.

A rare edition, released in 2022 and limited to just 750 magnums, it unites the memory of time with a radiant, pulsating vitality, standing as the ultimate symbol of longevity and oenological mastery at Charles Heidsieck.

Winery

Champagne Charles Heidsieck

Founded in Reims in 1851 by Charles-Camille Heidsieck, the Maison represents the youngest legacy of the legendary Heidsieck dynasty. An independent spirit and tireless traveler, Charles brought his Champagne across the Atlantic, conquering America and earning the nickname “Champagne Charlie.” His charisma and vision helped make the Maison a symbol of charm and distinction.

From the very beginning, Charles sought to create wines that reflected his personality — refined, bold, and profound. The selection of the finest grapes, meticulous attention to detail, and slow maturation in the Saint-Nicaise crayères, acquired in 1867, became the stylistic signature of a House that has always favored balance and complexity over passing trends.

Today, Charles Heidsieck continues to embody the pioneering and captivating spirit that forged its legend. Under the guidance of the Descours family, the Maison renews its pursuit of excellence, cherishing time as an essential ingredient. Each cuvée tells a story of Champagne where depth, elegance, and character coexist in perfect harmony.
