Champagne Palmer & Co
Vintage Collection 1999

Maison Palmer & Co has an impressive collection of old and rare vintages. These precious bottles are stored 'on tip' in the chalky cradle of the 18 metre deep cellars. The very long maturation of these exceptional wines gives them a rare complexity and fullness, while retaining a remarkable freshness.

The vintages in the "Collection" range are released each year in extremely limited quantities, reserved for those who want a tasting that goes beyond Champagne, as the wines are so closely linked to the terroir, to history, to time, to the savoir-faire and inimitable style of the Maison.

The Champagne Palmer & Co Vintage Collection 1999 is the result of a blend of 49% Chardonnay, 38% Pinot Noir and 13% Meunier grapes mainly harvested from the best Premier and Grand Crus of the Montagne de Reims. The Cuvées were selected by Chef de Cave Xavier Berdin and the Maison's four oenologists for their superior quality and ageing potential.

The 1999 vintage was marked by a hailstorm in May which destroyed many of the vines, although as the year progressed warmer weather prevailed in July and August. The year developed promisingly with high expectations, until heavy rains in the second week of September contributed to the loss of a larg part of the crops. Despite the rain, the grapes had ripened well over the long summer and initial concerns about flavour dilution never became an issue.

Winery

Champagne Palmer & Co

The history of Maison Palmer & Co began in 1948, in Avize and led immediately to excellence. In 1959, the Maison bought a new cellar in Reims and by the end of the 70s the maison had grown so much with the acquisition of Chardonnay vineyards in Côte de Sézanne and of Pinot Noir in Aube. Today the Maison can count on 390 hectares spread throughout the Champagne region, where more than a half are classified as Grand and Premier Cru. The strength relies not only in the vineyards, but also in "vin de reserve" from the great vintages of the past, that enable the Maison to maintain it high quality standard. The long resting period on yeasts, then, grants Palmer & Co incredible fineness, elegance and complexity.
