Bruno Paillard

Born in Reims in 1953, Bruno Paillard descends from an old family of vignerons and Champagne brokers rooted in the Montagne de Reims, between Bouzy and Verzenay, since 1704. After six years in the family grape-broking business, he developed a deep knowledge of Champagne’s terroirs and crus. In January 1981, at just twenty-eight years old, he founded his own Maison, selling his classic car to do so, with a clear idea in mind: to create a pure, elegant Champagne, devoted to quality rather than volume.

Independent and still family-run, the Maison is based in Reims and has been led since 2019 by his daughter Alice, who carries forward its vision with the same commitment to purity and consistency. In 1983, Bruno Paillard was the first to indicate the disgorgement date on every bottle, a gesture of transparency that became his signature. In the cellar, only the first pressing — the purest — is used, and the wines age on the lees for two to four times longer than the minimum required by the appellation. Since 1985, the reserve wines have been preserved according to the Solera method, safeguarding the Maison’s distinctive style.

The estate’s vineyards cover around thirty hectares across some of Champagne’s most sought-after crus, from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger in the Côte des Blancs to Verzenay and Cumières, with a significant proportion classified as Grand Cru. The varietal composition gives pride of place to Pinot Noir, alongside Chardonnay and Meunier, grown on chalky soils that enhance minerality and finesse. Viticulture is carried out sustainably, without herbicides or pesticides, with soil cultivation, partial grass cover and careful attention to biodiversity. This gives rise to Champagnes of radiant elegance, to be savoured with the care and attention that every great wine deserves.
