Montagne de Reims is an enfatic term to describe a territory of the A.O.C. Champagne, whose altitude is not over 300 m. Nevertheless, it is the highest massif of the valley of Champagne. The production of Pinot Noir is the most spread and the top quality of the wines is due to the soil: a massive chalk block in a perfect location, so that this red grape can develop its features.
The sun position over the vineyards is fundamental for the differences among the crus. For example in the village of Bouzy, the Pinot Noir is stronger and structured. On the eastern part of the slope, the vineyards of Verzenay produce a livelier wine, with a long-lasting taste in your mouth. Pinot Noir from the village of Mailly on the northern slope of the mountain gives round and elegant wines.
