Maxence Janisson
Maxence Janisson’s winery is located in Épernay, within the Côteaux Sud d’Épernay area, a wine-growing region that extends along the left bank of the Marne River. This territory is characterized by slopes shaped by the Le Cubry, Le Darcy, and Le Mancy streams, which contribute to the diversity of the soils and the mineral richness of the vineyards. The unique configuration of the terroir makes this area an ideal place for viticulture, providing perfect conditions for cultivating high-quality grapes.
The story of Maxence Janisson is that of a man who chose an independent path, leaving Maison Janisson-Baradon to devote himself to viticulture with an artisanal and organic approach. After handing over the commercial management to his brother, he repurchased his vineyards, cultivating them with sustainable methods to enhance the terroir of Épernay. This led him to establish his own brand, drawing inspiration from the Burgundian tradition and highlighting the uniqueness of each parcel.
Maxence cultivates 4.5 hectares of vineyards on the southern slopes of the Côteaux Sud d’Épernay, with Chardonnay (60%), Pinot Noir (25%), and a small percentage of Meunier (14%). The clay-limestone soils, with a strong presence of chalk, give his wines freshness and minerality. His first Champagne, Pie Danse, is a unique expression of Pinot Noir, sourced from a mid-slope parcel on brown, clay-rich soils. Debuting in 2024, it embodies his winemaking philosophy: respect for the terroir, freshness, aromatic tension, and vinification by parcel.
