Champagne Henri Giraud
Aÿ MV18 Magnum
The Champagne Aÿ MV by Henri Giraud is the most authentic interpretation of the Aÿ Grand Cru, a village historically devoted to Pinot Noir where chalky soils and ideal exposures yield ripe, deep fruit, always supported by a mineral tension. The MV initials, standing for Multi-Vintage, express a vision that considers time an essential ingredient, uniting the memory of several years with the dialogue with oak from the Argonne forest, a tradition the Maison has brought back to prominence in Champagne.
This MV18 edition, from the 2018 harvest, is enriched by 30% vin de réserve from the réserve perpétuelle and is based predominantly on Pinot Noir grapes, completed by 25% Chardonnay, with vinification and maturation in partly new casks that lend breadth and depth. After tirage comes ageing on the lees for at least four years, during which the contribution of the oak blends harmoniously into the wine, which thus gains further finesse and complexity before dégorgement.
On tasting, Aÿ MV18 reveals a rare balance between richness and freshness, with a broad, vinous structure that lively acidity keeps constantly taut and dynamic, while the oak remains perfectly integrated without ever overpowering the wine. On the palate the texture is silky and enveloping, accompanied by a fine, creamy mousse, leading to a long, precise and progressive finish, closed by a savoury, mineral trail that underlines its depth.
