Lacourte-Godbillon

The first Cuvées made in Ecueil - a Premier Cru classified village located on the western slopes of the Montagne de Reims - under the name of Lacourte and Godbillon date back to 1947 when, at the end of the Great War, Geraldine's great-grandparents started bottling and selling the first bottles to a very first clientele who filled the trunks of their cars. This inheritance was collected and handed down from 1968 onwards by Jean-Guy Lacourte and Claudine Godbillon and finally in 2006 by Geraldine who, together with her husband Richard, decided to abandon their professional activities and return to manage this beautiful reality.

The Domaine owns 8 hectares in Ecueil and 0.5 in the nearby village of Mesneaux: 85% of the area is occupied by Pinot Noir and the rest by Chardonnay. The average age of the vineyard is about 30 years and the Terroir is characterized by an incredible variety of substrates ranging from sandy to areas with a high limestone and chalky component. The agricultural approach is extremely sensitive and aimed at respecting as much as possible the organic and natural components of the environment and subsoil. The company has begun the process of biodynamic conversion and certification which will soon be completed. The operations carried out in the cellar follow the same logic of respect and attention.

The objective is very simple: to accompany the material in the natural process of transformation of grapes into wine using the minimum external intervention possible. Fermentation occurs on indigenous yeasts at controlled temperature, and is carried out both in wood and in stainless steel depending on the plot of origin. Long periods of contact between the wine and the fine lees are encouraged. The froth is followed by periods of aging ranging from a minimum of 3 years to a maximum of 7. The vision for Lacourte Godbillon is very simple: the Terroir must express itself at its best in order to obtain the best balance of its characteristics.
