André Robert

For five generations, the Robert family has been telling a long story of Vigneron at Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. It all began with Henri Robert (1881-1948) immediately after the First World War, followed by his son, André Robert, purchased - in 1960 - the Maison that owns beautiful 19th century plaster cellars, where the bottles are now stored. The first bottles of Champagne André Robert were then sold in 1962. Immersed in this wonderful world of Champagne since his early childhood, Bertrand Robert took over the Domaine - in 1981 - assisted by his wife Colette since 1990.

The Domaine currently covers 14 hectares of vineyards, most of which are classified as Grand Cru and Premier Cru in the renowned CĂ´te des Blancs. Chardonnay is the soul of the Maison and remains the guiding principle of all blendings bringing the finesse and minerality of this exceptional and unique terroir. Vinifications are traditional and mainly take place in small 228-litre barrels, which are on average about 12 years old. Bottling is always rather late (in July) to allow the wines to age on yeasts for at least 8 months.

The creation of their Champagnes is based on the continuous search for a perfect balance between a very calcareous terroir that brings freshness, finesse and minerality, and the vinification that brings power and substance, fat and softness. All wines benefit from the necessary time to grow and develop, then are stored for aging in chalk cellars for at least 3 years for Brut Sans Année and at least 6 years for Millésime, always at a temperature of 11-13°C.

This important refinement allows their Champagnes to lose some of their minerality and gain roundness and fullness. Today, Claire Robert, part of the fifth generation, has joined the family and is guided by the passion of her predecessors, ready to ensure the future and the durability of the style of the Maison.
