Guillaume Sergent

The Sergent family's story on the slopes of Vrigny, a Premier Cru village in the Montagne de Reims, dates back to at least the mid-nineteenth century. For decades Guillaume's parents delivered their grapes to the cooperative, labelling their bottles under the name Roger Sergent. After studying oenology and gaining experience at Maison Louis Roederer, Guillaume took over the estate in 2008 and chose the path of independence, which took shape in 2011 with his first 600 bottles.

Just under two hectares, divided into eight plots between Vrigny and Coulommes-la-Montagne, rest on deep sands scattered with fossil shells, a soil rarely found in Champagne. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier grow without insecticides, amid natural ground cover and work guided by the lunar calendar, with organic conversion under way since 2019. Indigenous yeasts, older barrels, hand riddling and minimal dosage give rise to around 8,000 saline, luminous bottles, rare and precious, well worth seeking out patiently and discovering with curiosity.
