Champagne Guillaume Sergent
Pataphysique Millésime 2020
The Champagne Pataphysique by Guillaume Sergent gives voice to the most authentic Meunier of the Petite Montagne de Reims. The grapes are harvested from old vines in the Premier Cru village of Vrigny, where sandy and clay-limestone soils give the grape energy, depth and a strong sense of place. It is a Blanc de Noirs that reflects the free-spirited, artisanal approach of its vigneron, who turns a grape long considered secondary into an intense, sincere expression full of personality.
This edition, Vintage 2020, was vinified and matured in oak barrels with spontaneous fermentations driven by indigenous yeasts, without any fining or filtration, so as to preserve the full expression of the fruit and of its origin. After tirage comes more than 60 months of ageing on the lees, bringing complexity and aromatic finesse, while dégorgement takes place with no final dosage, in an Extra Brut style, to underline the purity and essential character of the cuvée.
On tasting, Pataphysique 2020 shows a rich and vibrant profile, with crisp red fruit, citrus notes, spicy nuances and delicate mineral hints woven into a complex, well-defined aromatic picture. On the palate it is taut and structured, with a precise texture and a marked salinity carrying its development towards a long, incisive finish of great clarity, a faithful expression of its terroir. Production in a limited run of 1,579 bottles.
