Champagne Nicolas Maillart
Les Auges 2020
The Champagne Les Auges by Nicolas Maillart expresses with extraordinary intensity the character of a single parcel from Villers-Allerand, a Premier Cru village of the Montagne de Reims. Here clay-limestone soils, enriched with sand and pebbles, favour a balanced ripening of the grapes and give the wine depth and structure. The result is a Blanc de Noirs that authentically conveys the identity of its terroir and the artisanal, respectful approach of the Domaine.
This edition, Vintage 2020, is made exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes from the parcel that gives the wine its name. Vinification and fermentation, spontaneous thanks to indigenous yeasts, take place entirely in fût de chêne, and the wine is left unfiltered to respect its integrity. After the tirage, the wine ages on its lees for more than 42 months, while the final dosage of 1 g/l, in Extra Brut style, preserves the authenticity of both the grape variety and the terroir.
On tasting, Les Auges 2020 reveals a rich and enveloping profile, with notes of ripe red fruits, medicinal herbs, hints of spice and mineral nuances. On the palate it is dense, dynamic and saline, supported by a solid structure and a precise balance between substance, energy and precision, leading to an incisive finish of long persistence.
