1000% Meunier
The Champagne 1000% Meunier by Herbert & Co. pays tribute to a grape long relegated to a secondary role and here raised to the leading role. In the Montagne de Reims, where the Herbert family has tended its vineyards for over a century, it takes shape as a Blanc de Noirs that combines the fruity generosity of Meunier with the finesse of the Premier Cru villages of Rilly-la-Montagne, Ludes and Trois-Puits and the energy of the Grand Cru villages of Verzenay and Mailly.
This fourth edition, from the 2022 harvest, is vinified and matured for nine months in 228-litre Burgundy barrels, where the carefully measured oak brings breadth and complexity and supports the natural roundness of Meunier without taking away its drive and precision. After tirage, it ages for at least 36 months on the lees before dégorgement, which refines the perlage and enriches the aromatic profile. The final dosage of less than 3 g/l, in Extra Brut style, keeps the wine pure and crystalline, true to its fruit and terroir.
On tasting, 1000% Meunier shows an intense golden colour and a fine, persistent perlage. The nose opens with notes of ripe fruit, delicate spices and light toasty hints from its time in oak. On the palate it reveals structure, balance and depth, with vibrant freshness that lifts the fruit and leads to a long finish with a persistent mineral trail. Production in a limited run of 2,132 bottles.
