L'Amateur
The Champagne L'Amateur by David Léclapart takes its name from those who love, cultivate and seek with passion, and it is the most spontaneous and luminous gateway into the world of this vigneron from Trépail, a Premier Cru village on the eastern slopes of the Montagne de Reims. It is a Blanc de Blancs that combines pioneering biodynamic viticulture with the extraordinary finesse of chalky soils, portraying the village's Chardonnay with disarming sincerity and vibrant energy.
This edition, from the 2022 harvest, brings together six small plots of young and middle-aged vines, chosen to best represent the character of the village, with vinification and fermentation in multi-use oak barrels with indigenous yeasts, followed by around 12 months of maturation without fining, filtration or cold stabilisation. After tirage comes ageing on the lees for around 24 months, and the choice to release it without final dosage enhances its purity and the transparency of the terroir.
On tasting, L'Amateur shows a bright pale gold hue with a fine and lively bead, opening with aromas of green apple, pear, white flowers, grapefruit and lemon zest, enriched by hints of dried fruit, sweet spices and bread crust. On the palate it is taut and crystalline, with a lively attack and a delicate texture supported by citrus freshness and chalky minerality, leading to a long, savoury and clean finish that highlights its balance and persistence.
