L'Aphrodisiaque
The Champagne L'Aphrodisiaque by David Léclapart is a tribute to the vigneron's father and the cuvée that brings together the two main grape varieties of Trépail, a Premier Cru village on the eastern slopes of the Montagne de Reims. Its name evokes seduction and pleasure, yet behind this label lies a deep, thoughtful and surprising wine, the expression of rigorous biodynamic viticulture, deliberately low yields and a sincere, patient dialogue with the village's chalk-rich clay-limestone soils.
This edition, from the 2019 harvest, comes from the La Pierre Saint-Martin (lieu-dit) plot and shows a predominance of Chardonnay grapes, at 80%, completed by 20% Pinot Noir, with vinification and fermentation entirely in oak barrels using indigenous yeasts and without fining or filtration. After tirage comes long ageing on the lees for over 60 months, and the choice to release it without final dosage enhances its purity, tension and mineral intensity.
On tasting, L'Aphrodisiaque shows a pale golden hue with luminous green reflections and a very fine bead, opening with aromas of ripe citrus, orange zest, white flowers and biscuit, enriched by delicate notes of toasted almond. On the palate it is layered and complex, with a creamy texture supported by chiselled acidity and intense chalky minerality, leading to a long, saline and deep finish that underlines its balance and persistence.
